4 oz. Lemon juice, 1 1/2 oz. Orgeat syrup, 6 0z. Puerto Rico Rum, 1 oz.
Brandy

(Recipe courtesy of Beachbum Berry's Grog Log, by Jeff Berry which also
has Trader Vic's original version. This is how it is served today.)
3. Zombie
2 oz. Light Rum,
1 oz. Dark Rum, 1 oz. Apricot Brandy, Splash Simple Syrup, Pineapple Juice,
151% Rum
Blend rums, brandy, simple syrup & pineapple juice with ice, Pour

(Hollywood's Don Beach of Don the Beachcomber created the Zombie in the

(the floated rum on top is probably why so many of the comments said,
"YEach!" But, hey, isn't that why we drink alcohol, for the
taste? Love, Witch Hazel.)

and gloriously presented (3.5)
- SS: For my coconut
therapy - let the healing begin
Pink Squirrel PS I
Love You handed out the agenda for the day (pdf image
~this isn't working right now...).
-
Old Business: Web
IDs
- SJ decided on Brandy
"You're a Fine Girl" Alexander
JW collects cocktail
napkins. It was decided that LUPEC may want to start an online cocktail
napkin museum. JG has a funny paper napkin collection that can be contributed.
JW's are cloth.
Brandy "You're
a Fine Girl" Alexander was the Marquis De Sade for Halloween in HIGH
SCHOOL!
JB almost ruined
prom. She was approached about a theme, which was accepted by the committee,
although high school faculty didn't find it very funny. That theme was
"Last Tango in Paris."
JB and JW discussed
getting in touch with famous ladies about their prom experiences for the
next meeting. JG agreed to try, perhaps contacting the BUST ladies. JB
mentioned Elsie Hillman.
JG continues researching
the hipster winegrower thing for her meeting later in the fall.
Appetizers were served:
Hawaiian Bread and Carrot Cake.
- JG decided that
her Web ID would be Whiskey Daisy, as "daisy" refers to a
larger drink.
Second order of
Business >> Taste-testing the SCORPION BOWL (average 4.7)
- JB: Imagine
melted alcoholic jolly ranchers - Best of the Best! (5!)
- Whiskey Daisy:
Yummm. Tastes like candy! Too sweet to drink all night (4)
- Brandy "YAFG"
Alexander: It's yummy...it's strong....and there's a whole lot of it!
(5 with a bullet!)
- Pink Squirrel
PSILY: Oh boy. Two glasses must mean I liked it! (4.5)
- SS: Delightful
& a surprise...it's potent [illegible]* to be - deadly but not as
deadly as I expected (5)
*Illegibility caused
by Pink Squirrel PSILY, who was writing while SS dictated.
- Are you muff enough?
JB tossing around Web ID name "Muff Diver." This name would
qualify her as JB, MD.
Special note: RH,
husband of SS, received a special citation for his work on/at this meeting.
Absinthe
Anise
(this is in the notes, I don't know what it means)
Third order of
Business >> Taste-testing the ZOMBIE (average 3.3)
- JB: Oh dear.
I'm afraid I can taste the alcohol. It gets better the more you drink,
but I have to give it a 3. (3)
- Whiskey Daisy:
Strong - but tasty - don't give me too many! (3.5)
- Brandy "YAFG"
Alexander: Daddy, I do not want a drink like this! (2)
- Pink Squirrel
PSILY: Wowie Kazowie Big Bang Boom (3)
- SS: Success
as well. Quite Potent. Good that we only had one drink. [Illegible]
floated on top [illegible]*. (5)
Illegibility issues
once again can be blamed on one very drunk Pink Squirrel. Sorry, SS.
Next meeting: July
8 (Sunday) from 2 to 5 pm.
We toasted to Brooks
in Chicago for the good Cop joke.
Important future
issues discussed:
- a standing
invitation to LUPECers and friends at a bar to be decided.
-
The Friends
of LUPEC annual meeting
- "best
of the best drinks"
- December:
rent a bar for one hour to have a party. Commission a drink by a
local bartender named for a lady from this century. Give him a few
requisite characteristics of the drink (e.g., red, velvet)
- Bartender
agreed upon by JB, Brandy "YAFG" Alexander, SS was Dombis
Starky (Don Bistarkey) at Lava
Lounge
- Debut drink
at party
Note: Hello Kitty
Vibrator
- A call by JB
for the final drink of the evening to always be "Pims and Soda"
went somewhat unresolved. This should be further discussed at later
meetings.
- At October meeting,
we will vote for the drink to be commissioned and the best of the best
drinks.
My apologies if
I missed anything --- Pink
